While home sales in Grand Rapids have decreased the last few weeks, West Michigan real estate isn’t the only area affected by the recent market changes.
RISMEDIA, July 6, 2010—Following a surge driven by the home buyer tax credit, pending home sales fell with the expiration of the deadline for qualified buyers to sign a purchase contract, according to the National Association of Realtors.

Grand Rapids area home sales in June were 27 percent lower than a year ago and 8 percent lower than two years ago.
While those numbers are nothing to smile about, the average price of homes sold last month was $117,061, up 3 percent from 2009, according to the Grand Rapids Association of Realtors.

Sales of new homes dropped to a record low in May, according to new government figures released Wednesday, providing a gauge of the market’s dependence on a federal stimulus program.
The Commerce Department figures showed that new single-family homes sold at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 300,000 in May, down 32.7 percent from the revised April rate of 446,000.
